Final Thoughts

wsb_smThis will be my last blog post while in the Portland Senior Experience. It is crazy to think that our time here is coming to an end. I wanted to take this time to reflect on my personal experience and give some final advice for anyone who is considering applying for the PDXSX in the future.

My first piece of advice; if you have any interest at all in the PDXSX absolutely go for it. The very worst that will happen is you do not get in and gain interview experience. I have grown so much as a person, and professionally during my time here that I can honestly say the experience is invaluable.

Josh does an unbelievable job pushing you to achieve your best and really sticks his neck out there for you. More than anything though I have gained confidence in myself, in my abilities, and as a professional. There is absolutely no way I would have learned as much as I have in a classroom as I have her in Portland. That is by no means an insult on school or the SOJC, but for me being hands on, in the industry was the best way to learn.

Finally, I would encourage anyone who is interested to reach out and see what it is all about. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just want to chat.

Go Ducks!

I absolutely agree, Adam! The skills we gained through this experience are invaluable. So glad we could be a part of the fall 2015 cohort!

Great words of wisdom, Adam! We’ve definitely all learned so much from our experience in Portland!

I have felt exactly the same way… there are so many things I have learned at my internship that I never learned in the classroom or even working at the Emerald. Industry jargon, what is normal in a professional newsroom, how different people have arrived at their careers… there’s no substitute for real life experience.
