Night Cheese and Sh*t Journalists Say: A Slap-Happy Midterm Post

Yesterday I submitted the final draft of a story that has been giving me hell. It wasn’t incredibly long, about a thousand words. But it was complex. State legislative budgets, health care reform, homelessness, mental health and substance abuse complex. I’ve been trying to sort it all out for weeks and luckily, a few days before deadline, a light bulb came on. I had been staring at the same page of known facts all day, and suddenly, like a loose fluorescent bulb sputtering to life, it made sense. It wasn’t even that complicated, at least it wouldn’t have been if I had asked the right questions.

I was so thrilled to finally know what I was talking about that my first draft came out all roses. A little too rosy. I had forgotten to include some much needed criticisms and it sounded a bit like a government press release. No problems though! I had the material. It was a relatively quick and easy fix. Now the story is done for real and fit to print.

And to be honest, I’m spent. It’s midterms. It’s raining. And I’m tired. I’m gonna celebrate meeting my deadline with my favorite sweatpants and a glass of wine.

Tonight’s post is short and sweet. Goodnight and happy midterms to my follow PDXers 🙂

Congrats on getting that story turned in! There’s nothing better than finally finishing a story that has been pestering you for weeks. Can’t wait to read it!

Get it girl! Kick *ss and take names as all of my coaches used to say. And also, “Treat yo self!” – Tom and Donna from Parks & Rec. It’s so perfect when that lightbulb turns on and you know exactly how to get something done – happy that happened for you! Cheers!
